Background
My name is Matt Craig. I am a self-taught landscape artist living with my wife Lisa, in NC within Iredell County. I’ve been painting for nearly 40 years, but this became a bigger effort three years ago. I am a member of both the Iredell and Mooresville Art Associations.
My work is Post-Impressionistic painting at its heart. It leans heavily into Van Gogh, Henri Martin and Cezanne styles. I want to share a waterfall of color in outdoor themes, particularly around water and grasslands. My latest series concentrates on hay rounds/bales. I also tend to have a patriotic bent. The paintings use the complete canvas with a particular focus on negative spaces., as the beauty of each painting is the whole canvas. I am very proud of each piece for their style and originality.
I paint on canvas and utilize acrylic paint. I often mix in significant medium for very textured results. Paintings are always framed and sealed with high-end, high gloss medium oil finishes so the work retains a wet or oil-based look. The works are often larger (3x4 ft), though I have significant inventory of 24x24 and 16x20 inch paintings.
I have collectors in Oak Island, Kure Beach, Cary, Holly Springs, Wake Forest, Charlotte, Lake Lure, Madison NJ, Oakton VA, Del Rey Fla. Kansas City and other locals.
